Tomas Wennström speaking at Twestival

Posted on: 9 September, 2009 at 19:22 - Comment

Unfortunately Mattias Schertell had to cancel his speak about social media tomorrow, but there’s no reason for making a sad face. We have secured a great replacement speaker: Tomas Wennström! Yes, THE Tomas Wennström who created Sweden Social Web Camp on Tjärö this summer. Tomas also runs the blog/podcast What’s Next and the web services hittarecept.se and vackertväder.se.

As a leading figure on the Swedish social media scene Tomas has a lot of experience and observations to share with us. His talk will introduce us to the ways simple services on the web can be transformed into successful business models, with his own projects as examples.

Do not miss this opportunity to see a real web legend speak in Karlshamn! Whether you study digital media, or have a company that’s looking into using the web, you will find all this very interesting. And don’t forget that there’s also a great speak about modern charity efforts by Tomas Bjelkeman-Pettersson, music entertainment, auctions, raffles, food and snacks. Get your tickets today!

Twestival i media

(more…)

Art auction for the Akvo Foundation

Posted on: 8 September, 2009 at 13:28 - Comment

We are very proud to present the donated artworks by the artists Franco Costa, Anita Larsson and Lena Frank. They have been given to us completely for free with the hopes that they will help raise money for the Akvo Foundation.

We have decided to auction the artwork off on Tradera. The auction will be fully public, starting today, and anyone will have the opportunity to make a bid online. All auctions close on the evening of the Twestival event, on 10 september at 20:45. The winner of each auction will be able to pick up his or hers artwork at the end of the Twestival, or we can arrange to have it sent by mail at the buyer’s expense.

The auctions can be found here:

All artwork will be on display the entire evening, and we will set up a computer for people to make any last minute bids. The venue features free wifi, so if you are very eager to win an auction you can bring your own laptop. Just a friendly tip ;) (more…)

Official programme released

Posted on: 7 September, 2009 at 22:19 - Comment

The final details of the event have been decided and we have managed to put everything together into a programme for the evening.

We begin at 17:00 with some live music, mingling and snacks. At 17:30 Gourmet Grön will start serving food for those who have bought such a ticket.

When everyone has arrived (hopefully) at 18:00 we start the event with some words from the organizers, after which it’s time for Tomas Bjelkeman-Pettersson from the Akvo Foundation to present their work and the project we will be sponsoring during the evening.

Following Tomas’ talk there will be a short intermission before we will be given a short introduction to social media by BTH teacher Mattias Schertell at 19:00.

At 20:00 Lisa Bouvier and the Pop Messengers will enter the stage to play some pop music for us. People will be free to mingle about as they please.

The evening is ended at 20:30 with a raffle and the end of our online art auction, before we close the doors at 21:00. For those who don’t want to go home quite yet there will be an unofficial party at Harry’s bar afterwards.

Safe Drinking Water & Empowering Women in Ethiopia

Tonight we are proud to present our joint project with the Akvo Foundation: an effort for safe drinking water and the empowering of women in Gimbichu Woreda, Ethiopia. See this short video presentation:

You can follow the project’s status at the link above. As you can see, there’s still around €4000 needed to pull it off. Because every donation will be equally matched by Aqua for All, we have a real chance to raise the required €2000 on the night of September 10!

We are also very honored to be listed as an official Funding Partner of the Akvo Foundation. Hopefully this night will only be the first in a series of efforts for clean water and sanitation together with Akvo.

So please get your ticket for Twestival Karlshamn today, and help us help the people of Ethiopia to a better life.

A video discussion on water wikis

Here’s a video from Stockholm World Water Week where Akvo.org’s Thomas Bjelkeman and Juerg Staudemann of UNDP discuss the world of water wikis. Akvo.org is the target of our donations, and water wiki is part of their work to spread knowledge about clean water through the world.

Thanks to the fantastic assistance of NetPort we have now secured a charity venue for september 10. We will be in the large hall called Deltat in the center of the main building at Östra Piren. Here’s a map of the location.
